SPRING BREAK TRIATHLON CAMP ANNOUNCED

Join the MINI COW TRI CLUB for three afternoons of fun and fitness!

We've teamed up with our friends at Health Unlimited Family Fitness & Aquatic Center to offer a three day triathlon camp during Spring Break! Our Spring Break Triathlon Camp is designed for children ages 7 to 15 and will focus on swimming basics, bike safety and skills, running techniques, strength training, race preparation, equipment needs and transition tips.

All MINI COW TRI CLUB clinics and camps are designed and led by three-time USA Triathlon All-American Christy Lausch. Christy brings 14 years of multisport experience and two coaching certifications from USA Triathlon, including a USA Triathlon Youth and Junior Coaching Certification. In 2011, Christy coached 18 youth triathletes to 57 individual performances and 24 podium finishes.

You do not need to be a member of Health Unlimited to register your triathlete for this camp, however, camp size is limited and registration is through Health Unlimited only. So hoof it on over to our CLINICS & CAMPS page for all the deets.

FREE YOUTH TRANSITION CLINIC AT MULTISPORT WORLD

Declan making quick work of T1 at the 2011 Frederick Kids Triathlon

Transitions are often called the fourth sport of triathlon. MINI COW TRI CLUB is offering a free clinic to help take the mystery out of the swim-to-bike and bike-to-run transitions and get your young triathlete MOOtivated for the 2012 triathlon season!

One part presentation, one part hands-on, the Youth Transition Clinic will cover basic triathlon equipment needs, transition tips and tricks, bike mount/dismount techniques and safety.

Following the presentation portion of the clinic there will be a few minutes for Q&A, and then the first 24 youth triathletes to register will have an opportunity to put their new skills to practice during hands-on drills and a fun relay event. The clinic is free but registration is required.

What: Youth Transition Clinic at Multisport World Conference and Expo
Who: Children ages 7-14
When: Saturday, March 24, 2012, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Where: Hanley Center for Athletic Excellence, 10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD 20852
Fee: Free, registration required
RegisterimATHLETE.com/events/YouthTransitionClinic

Due to space limitations as well as the safety of our youth triathletes and coaches, we can only invite the first 24 children that register to participate in the hands-on portion of the clinic.

There's a bunch stuff at the 2012 Multisport World Conference and Expo for grownup triathletes too—six time Ironman World Champion Dave Scott is the keynote speaker—so hoof it on over to their website and register yourself. Admission to the expo and seminars is free!

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR 2012 USAT YOUTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

We're super excited to see the USA Triathlon Youth National Championship make its way eastward this year to Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH, on August 11, 2012.

Though a non-qualifying event, the USA Triathlon Youth National Championship draws the best youth triathletes and clubs from across the country and crowns the top three male and female youth triathletes in six age groups. While USA Triathlon is still finalizing the swim, bike and run, a birds-eye view of Voice of America Park confirms an open water swim and suggests flat and fast bike and run courses.

West Chester, OH, is less than an eight hour drive from the farthest corners of the USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region—the largest USA Triathlon Region in the country—so we have a feeling the 300 triathlete race field limit is going to be reached sooner rather than later. So mark your cowendar, register early and join the MINI COW TRI CLUB in Ohio this August!

HAPPY MOO YEAR

We've got a barnful of exciting things planned for twenty twelve! Here's just a few of the things we're workin' on...

  • A free youth transition clinic at a regional multisport expo
  • A youth triathlon camp with some super cool training partners
  • A Spring youth triathlon camp at a local health club
  • A Summer youth triathlon camp in the heart of MINI COW TRI CLUB country

And that's only the new stuff!

Now in its second year, the 2012 Maryland Youth Triathlon Series will be kickin' off Memorial Day Weekend at the TRI-TO "WIN-THE-FIGHT" Frederick Kids Triathlon. We're also super excited to see the USA Triathlon Junior and Youth National Championship making its way eastward. West Chester, OH is less than an eight hour drive from the farthest corners of the USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region, so mark your cowendar and join us in Ohio on August 11.

Two weeks later back in Maryland, the Nottingham Kids Triathlon presented by the MINI COW TRI CLUB will serve as both the last stop of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series and the 2012 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Youth Regional Championship. And of course who can forget the Kids Adventure BOOathlon at Knill's Farm Market in October!

With so much going on you don't want to wander too far away from the barn. If you aren't already receiving our monthly MOOsletter click on the green button to the right to subscribe and we'll be sure to keep you in-the-know.

Now get back to those resolutions!

2011 MARYLAND YOUTH TRIATHLON SERIES WRAP UP

Megan, Kaitlyn, Hailey and Joseph hammin' it up at the 2011 TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon

We're puttin' the wraps on year one of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series and what a year it was!

As a refresher, the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series was formed through a partnership among the Nottingham Kids Triathlon presented by the MINI COW TRI CLUB, the TRI-TO "WIN-THE-FIGHT" Frederick Kids Triathlon, the Truxtun Youth Triathlon, and the TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon, to drive awareness of Melanoma skin cancer among adolescents and young adults and support the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation

Back in August, thanks to some creativity on our part and generousity on your part, we were able to raise $500 by offering 20 charity spots to the sold out Nottingham Kids Triathlon. We kicked in another $200 and thanks to a corporate matching contribution raised a total of $1,400 for the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation!

In addition to raising awareness of Melanoma skin cancer among adolescents and young adults, the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series encouraged participation in multiple Series events by offering incentives for completing two, three or four Series events. In total, 125 children completed two or more Series events (92 children completed two events, 23 children completed three events, and ten children completed all four Series events). We're proud to say that of the ten children who completed all four Series events, seven were MINI COW TRI CLUB Youth Triathlon Racing Team members!

There was also the business of awarding ten grand prizes, chosen at random from among all the children who completed a Maryland Youth Triathlon Series event. The following winners will be receiving a USA Triathlon transition back pack and a USA Triathlon transition towel!

Quentin A. (Frederick Kids Triathlon)
Joshua A. (Nottingham Kids Triathlon)
Nicole F. (TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon)
Sean F. (Frederick Kids Triathlon)
Andrew G. (Frederick Kids Triathlon)
Bradley J. (Nottingham Kids Triathlon)
Addison L. (Truxtun Youth Triathlon)
Christy M. (TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon)
Sara M. (Nottingham Kids Triathlon)
Kaitlyn O. (Nottingham Kids Triathlon)

COWgratulations to all our Maryland Youth Triathlon Series participants and a special shout out to MINI COW TRI CLUB Youth Triathlon Racing Team members Anna, Benjamin, Ben, Declan, Grace, Jordan and Megan for completing all four Series events!
