2013 East Coast Triathlon Festival

The first of three special qualifiers for the USA Triathlon Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships in West Chester, Ohio, the inaugural East Coast Triathlon Festival in Richmond, Virginia this past weekend drew the best Youth Elite and Junior Elite triathletes from along the East coast and as far away as San Diego.

The Youth Elite race marked Anna's first draft-legal triathlon while the non-drafting Youth race challenged Benjamin with longer swim, bike and run courses. No strangers to multisport, siblings Audrey and Ansel raced for the first time in MINI COW TRI CLUB team colors, with Ansel racing his way to a second place finish in the Boys 7–8 age group.

A couple of shout outs. First, cowgratulations to former MINI COW TRI CLUB triathlete Grace Obando on her fourth place finish in the Female Youth Elite race, securing her spot to the National Championship. Also, cowgratulations to friend of the club and 2011 Maryland Youth Triathlon Series spokesathlete Hunter Lussi on earning his USAT Elite Triathlon License with his second place finish in the U25 Elite Development Race.

We've got a barnful of images in our 2013 East Coast Triathlon Festival gallery, so hoof it on over there to see the rest. Next stop for the herd is the Frederick Kids Triathlon May 25.

Free Youth Transition Clinic at TRI-MANIA

Transitions are often called the fourth sport of triathlon. MINI COW TRI CLUB is offering a free youth transition clinic for children ages 7–15 to help take the mystery out of the swim-to-bike and bike-to-run transitions and get your triathlete MOOtivated for the 2013 season!

One part presentation one part hands-on, our free Youth Transition Clinic at TRI-MANIA Summit and Expo on March 24 will cover basic triathlon equipment needs, transition tips, bike racking rules, bike mounting/dismounting techniques, and safety. Previous multisport experience is not necessary. Following the presentation portion of the clinic there will be a few minutes for Q&A and then the first 24 youth triathletes to register will have an opportunity to put their new skills to practice during hands-on drills and a fun relay event. The clinic is free but pre-registration is required. Last year's clinic filled quickly, so don't wait to register!

Hoof it on over to our Youth Transition Clinic at TRI-MANIA Summit and Expo page for more deets and a link to register online.
