SLIDESHOW: 2011 LUMS POND YOUTH TRIATHLON

With the Nottingham Kids Triathlon behind us, we're going back and taking care of some unfinished business. Namely our race recap of the 2011 Lums Pond Youth Triathlon in Bear, DE, on August 13.

The Lums Pond Youth Triathlon uses the same course as the Escape From School Youth Triathlon from earlier this summer. We love the course at Lums Pond State Park because it gives our youth triathletes an opportunity at a running beach start and an open water swim.

The Lums Pond Youth Triathlon goes by in a hurry, and when it was all said and done the MINI COW TRI CLUB came home with Second Place in the Female 11-12 age group, and Second and Third Place in the Male 9-10 age group. COWgratulations Anna, Benjamin and Ethan!

Next up on our cowendar, the Health Unlimited Kids Triathlon, on September 17, in Mount Airy, MD.

Charity Spots Available For Sold Out Nottingham Kids Triathlon

When we started the Nottingham Kids Triathlon in August 2008, we could have only dreamed that we would be producing a triathlon for 200 youth triathletes, complete with transition racks, chip timing, technical race tees and age group awards. Or that we would be selected as the 2011 and 2012 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Youth Regional Championship, or be founding partners of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series. Yet here we are just three years later, living a dream. We feel honored that so many triathletes—and their families—have chosen to race at our Nottingham Kids Triathlon.

Each year we have carefully managed the growth of our event always putting the safety of our triathletes first, and this year is no different. Based on previous years, we had a target number of registrations that we were planning for 2011. This past weekend, with registrations coming in at a record pace, we had to close registration early or risk having more triathletes than we felt we could comfortably manage in our fourth year.

We have decided to reopen registration for the Nottingham Kids Triathlon and offer a limited number of charity spots. These charity spots will be priced $25 more than the regular registration and the full proceeds of this increase will go directly to the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. The Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, which produces the TRI-TO "WIN-THE-FIGHT" Frederick Kids Triathlon, is a founding partner of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series which was formed, in part, to drive awareness of melanoma skin cancer among adolescents and young adults and support the efforts of the Foundation.

Registration for the 20 charity spots to the Nottingham Kids Triathlon will open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011, and will close when all 20 charity spots have been purchased or 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2011, whichever occurs first. Registration will be through imATHLETE at http://www.imATHLETE.com/events/NottinghamKidsTriathlon.

If you have any questions about the available charity spots or the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, please contact the Race Director, Brian Lausch, at brian@MiniCowTriClub.com.

ABOUT THE JOANNA M. NICOLAY MELANOMA FOUNDATION

Melanoma skin cancer is the most common cancer among young adults ages 25-29 and the second most common cancer in adolescents and young adults ages 15-29. Based in Maryland, the Joanna M. RACE RECAP: TRUXTUN YOUTH TRIATHLON

There was no sleeping in on Father's Day this year for dads and granddads of the MINI COW TRI CLUB. Instead, by 6:45 a.m. they found themselves in our state's capital wandering around the transition area of the Truxtun Youth Triathlon, the second stop of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series.

The MINI COW TRI CLUB raced to eight top five finishes including four podium finishes: two firsts, a second and a third. Among the 150 boys and girls ages 7 to 12 who raced the shorter course, Grace (12) posted the fastest time with a 24:03, while Benjamin (9) posted the sixth fastest with a 26:02. The four triathletes who finished between Grace and Benjamin were all in the Male 11-12 age group.

Cowgratulations to all of our MINI COW TRI CLUB triathletes, and a big thank MOO to all the MINI COW TRI CLUB dads and granddads who shared their day—and their families—with us. Next up on our cowendar, the TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon in Columbia, MD on July 24.
