When we started the Nottingham Kids Triathlon in August 2008, we could have only dreamed that we would be producing a triathlon for 200 youth triathletes, complete with transition racks, chip timing, technical race tees and age group awards. Or that we would be selected as the 2011 and 2012 USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Youth Regional Championship, or be founding partners of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series. Yet here we are just three years later, living a dream. We feel honored that so many triathletes—and their families—have chosen to race at our Nottingham Kids Triathlon.
Each year we have carefully managed the growth of our event always putting the safety of our triathletes first, and this year is no different. Based on previous years, we had a target number of registrations that we were planning for 2011. This past weekend, with registrations coming in at a record pace, we had to close registration early or risk having more triathletes than we felt we could comfortably manage in our fourth year.
We have decided to reopen registration for the Nottingham Kids Triathlon and offer a limited number of charity spots. These charity spots will be priced $25 more than the regular registration and the full proceeds of this increase will go directly to the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation. The Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, which produces the TRI-TO "WIN-THE-FIGHT" Frederick Kids Triathlon, is a founding partner of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series which was formed, in part, to drive awareness of melanoma skin cancer among adolescents and young adults and support the efforts of the Foundation.
Registration for the 20 charity spots to the Nottingham Kids Triathlon will open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011, and will close when all 20 charity spots have been purchased or 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2011, whichever occurs first. Registration will be through imATHLETE at http://www.imATHLETE.com/events/NottinghamKidsTriathlon.
If you have any questions about the available charity spots or the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, please contact the Race Director, Brian Lausch, at brian@MiniCowTriClub.com.
